Signs

I looked this morning…

I saw this bit of yellow, this small blossom..

Then I saw another…this time pink. Is this the start? Are these the signs of spring? Of course! I’ve been waiting so long during this cold drab winter, for these exact signs. Finally, and especially with this sun warming my back, spring is right around the corner. It makes me happy. Very happy. Seeing these signs, I can wait a little longer…knowing what will happen soon.

We look for other signs. Watching for the signs of healing to a body that has been ravaged by sickness. Watching our children grow and learn…looking for signs of success at each phase of their growing. And every day anticipations…..like watching for signs for the right moment to take our cake out of the oven. Waiting for our soap to come to gel knowing that soon it will be ready to cut the next day(this is an every day event for us soapmakers!) We wait with anticipation with a little hope mixed with expectancy for the outcome.  Usually, once we see signs that things are happening as we hoped they would, we feel happy, satisfied and contented that our watch was not in vain.

“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations… the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” ~Luke 21:25-27

There are also things that we all are witnessing now in our world, causing great distress. I do believe that these things that are happening are what many call the “signs of the times”. As a Christian, I look with anticipation and hope for when Christ returns in all of His glory. Yes, things here on our earth seem to be out of control…but God really holds the control of everything. And when I see so many things happening around us, I cling to the promise of His return. My watch will NOT be in vain.

Striking a Chord of Harmony
by Charles R. Swindoll

Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

—Ephesians 4:1-3

Lord, we realize that this is straight talk from You: “Preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” It doesn’t win votes, but it gets attention. It doesn’t promise that we’ll get our way, but it teaches truth. Your way is the best way . . . forbid that we ever go any other way. We’ve tried those ways. They’re all dead-end streets or, if not that, they lead into dangerous swamps.

So we pray that You will give Your people a sense of recommitment to this matter of unity and harmony and confidentiality and purity and love and tolerance and patience through Your words, gentleness, humility, in the bond of peace. May we model that unity, Lord. May we model it when we’re at home, when we’re in our neighborhoods, when we’re at our workplaces, when we’re behind the steering wheel of our cars, when we’re doing business, when we’re at the grocery store, when we’re meeting new friends, and any other time we’re given the opportunity to impact another life. Give us great harmony, Lord. As You grow us up, grow us deep. May our roots deepen as our fruit ripens.

Now unto Him who is able to keep us from falling, and to present us faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever.

In the name of Your dear Son. Amen.
